The shopping street around Gotemba Station is dotted with local eateries, soba shops, and restaurants serving Mt. Fuji-themed dishes. It is conveniently located close to the old Prefectural Route 246, where the pedestrian paradise begins, so once you finish dinner you can head straight to the festival venue. As evening falls, festival staff in happi coats and families in yukata begin to fill the street, and a sense of pre-festival excitement builds in the air.
Tips
On the festival day, the surrounding roads are closed to traffic from 17:00 onward because of the pedestrian paradise. Finishing your meal by 16:00-16:59 makes it easier to get around afterward.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes needed. Between 16:00 and 16:59 is before the dinnertime crowd, making it easy to find a seat.
