About this spot

Tsushima Shrine (津嶋神社), enshrined on a small island floating in the sea, has long been known as a 'guardian deity of children.' Only during the grand festival, on August 4 and 5, 2026, is a temporary bridge built to cross over to the main shrine. Many families from within and outside the prefecture visit during summer vacation to pray for their children's healthy growth, and the shrine grounds are bustling with worshippers from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The sight of crossing the illuminated wooden temporary bridge to the small island to pray is a special experience available only during these two days.

Tips

This shrine can only be crossed to its main hall during the limited period when the temporary bridge is built. The bridge is made of wooden planks, so be especially careful of your footing at night. Surrounding roads become very congested during the festival, so using public transportation or temporary parking lots is recommended. The shrine is bustling with worshippers not only during the day but also into the evening.

Best time to visit

Early morning tends to be relatively quiet for visiting, while from evening onward the crowds grow even livelier along with the glow of lanterns.
