Summer festival in the port town where "Gaina Taiko" drums resound
About this spot
The 2026 Yonago Gaina Festival runs for three days from August 7 (Friday) to August 9 (Sunday), centered around Yonago City Center and Yonago Port. Living up to the festival's name, which derives from "Gaina" (meaning big or magnificent in local dialect), the majestic performance of the traditional "Gaina Taiko" and parades and events by community organizations liven up the venue. In the open atmosphere unique to a port town facing Lake Nakumi, fireworks sometimes light up the night, and the festival is wrapped in the heat befitting the finale of Yonago's summer.

Traffic regulations will be in place around the venue on the day, so using public transportation is safer. The port area can have cool breezes at night, so a light outer layer would be comfortable. Confirm with the organizers whether the festival will be held in bad weather.
Best time to visit
From 5 PM opening. From 6 PM onward, when the taiko drum performances become more intense, is the most impressive time to watch.
