Walk through Castle Ruins Called 'Japan's Easiest Mountain Castle to Climb'

This park spreads across the foothills to mid-slope of Hisamatsu Mountain and sits on the ruins of Tottori Castle, the seat of the Tottori Domain that governed Inaba and Hoki provinces throughout the Edo period. While the main tower no longer stands, impressive stonework remains in many places, and because it has relatively easy walking trails, it's also called 'Japan's Easiest Mountain Castle to Climb.' The park has many points of interest including the remains of the second enclosure and the Nakashikiri Gate, making it perfect for history exploration.

2026年の鳥取しゃんしゃん祭は8月13日(木)から15日(土)までの3日間開催され、初日の13日には18時から21時まで「すずっこ踊り」が若桜街道から片原通り、智頭街道、太平線通り、駅前通りにかけて繰り広げられます。傘の先に鈴をつけて踊るのが鳥取しゃんしゃん祭の大きな特徴で、踊り手が動くたびに「しゃんしゃん」と鈴の音が響き渡ります。翌14日には数千人規模の踊り手が一斉に傘踊りを披露する本番の祭りが控えており、その前夜にあたる13日は家族や子ども連れでも参加しやすい親しみやすい雰囲気が魅力です。

Tips

会場周辺は当日夕方から交通規制がかかるため、公共交通機関の利用がおすすめです。沿道での見学は早めの場所取りが安心です。夜も蒸し暑いことが多いので、うちわや冷却タオルがあると快適に過ごせます。荒天時の開催可否は主催者の発表を確認しましょう。

Tips

Despite being a mountain castle, the walking trails are mostly paved, so with comfortable shoes, families can walk without difficulty. In summer, some sections have little shade, so remember to drink water.
