Next stop: A museum introducing the history and lifestyle of the Mogami regionAbout this spot
This park was developed on the site of the former Shinjo Domain castle from the Edo period, and portions of the moat and stone walls still remain today. The grounds are filled with trees, making it a pleasant place to stroll while avoiding the summer sun. The park is also home to Gokoku Shrine (護国神社), where you can experience Shinjo's history in a quiet setting. Its spacious, easy walking paths also make it a good warm-up spot before heading to the Kaneyama Festival.
Tips
Within walking distance of Shinjo Station. Although there is plenty of shade in summer, there are also open areas, so bring something to drink. Most paths in the park are paved and stroller-friendly.
Best time to visit
About 50 minutes. Early afternoon tends to be less crowded and easier to walk around.
