Next stop: Watch the carp swim in the Oze canal from a waterside park by the town hallAbout this spot
This irrigation canal flows through the center of Kaneyama Town, and its charm lies in the way it blends with the townscape of white-walled storehouses lining its banks. Carp swim in the clear water, and simply walking along the canal gives you a sense of the town's living culture. You can also enjoy the townscape, where wood and white walls harmonize in a style typical of this town, known as the home of “Kaneyama cedar”. On a summer afternoon, walking by the water offers a refreshingly cool stroll.
Tips
About 15 minutes by car from central Shinjo City. The path along the canal is paved, but keep an eye on small children near the water. It's a photogenic spot, so it's also a good place for pre-festival photos.
Best time to visit
About 40 minutes. In the afternoon, the setting sun makes the water's surface sparkle beautifully.
