This is the Reitaisai (Annual Festival) of Hayachine Shrine, a tradition rooted in longstanding faith in Mount Hayachine, held in 2026 from 10:00 to 16:00 on August 1. Within the shrine grounds, the powerful and solemn Hayachine Kagura, part of the yamabushi kagura (mountain ascetic sacred dance) lineage, is dedicated; this performing art is also registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Danced to the accompaniment of taiko drums and flutes, the kagura features a rich repertoire ranging from bold, heroic dances to graceful ones, and the sound echoing through the quiet mountain-village shrine grounds carries a solemn power quite different from festivals in the city. It is a precious opportunity for the whole family to spend a day experiencing the depth of faith and performing arts that live on at the foot of this sacred mountain.

Since the shrine grounds are in a mountain valley with limited parking, arriving early is recommended for peace of mind. Some areas have little shade, so bring a hat or parasol. In case of severe weather, please check the organizer's announcements for any schedule changes.

Best time to visit

From the 10:00 start. The morning through midday, when the main kagura performances are dedicated, is the most rewarding time to watch
