Hakusan Nakai Shrine (白山中居神社) has long been revered as the Mino-side base of Hakusan faith. Within the grounds stand giant cedar trees said to be centuries old, and their solemn atmosphere brings visitors a sense of calm. Located in the mountains near the headwaters of the Nagara River, visiting in the clear morning air lets you start the day feeling refreshed. It is a spot where you can experience the quiet typical of Gujo, where historic shrine buildings and nature exist in harmony.

Tips

Located in the mountains about 20 minutes by car from central Shirotori. The shrine grounds have many natural stone steps, so wear comfortable walking shoes. There is plenty of shade even in summer, keeping it cool.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes needed. The quieter morning hours are recommended for a peaceful visit.
