Amidagataki Falls (阿弥陀ヶ滝) is a famous waterfall with a 60-meter drop, selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls and a symbolic landmark of Shirotori, Gujo City. The powerful cascade and thunderous roar of the water are spectacular, and the area around the basin stays refreshingly cool even in summer. From the observation deck along the walking trail, you can view the falls up close, and the distance is easy enough for small children to walk. It is a spot where you can feel the vigor of pure water unique to the headwaters area of the Nagara River.
Tips
A gentle walking trail leads from the parking lot to the observation deck. The ground near the basin can get slippery from spray, so non-slip shoes are recommended. There is plenty of shade to keep the area cool even in summer.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour needed. Morning, before the sun gets strong, is cool and easy for walking.
