The pond within the grounds of Nemichi Shrine (根道神社) is a famous spot affectionately called “Monet's Pond” for its astonishing clarity. Trees and sky are mirrored on the clear surface kept pure by spring water, and carp swimming serenely create a dreamlike scene like a painting. The shrine itself is a quiet ancient shrine in the mountains, and its charm is that you can stroll slowly while gazing at the pond. It is a spot where you will want to burn the transparency of the water into your memory at the start of the day.

Tips

A boardwalk is laid around the pond, but some footing is slippery, so walk carefully. It is a popular spot, so be considerate of other visitors when taking photos. Parking is often a little away, so checking the guidance in advance is reassuring.
