Stroll a Sengoku warlord's residence ruins and play in the Shijihara River until evening

Kikkawa Motoharu Residence Ruins History Park (吉川元春館跡歴史公園) is a history park developed on the residence site of the Sengoku warlord Kikkawa Motoharu (吉川元春). The grounds, where stone walls and garden remains survive, are always open and free to visit, and you can stroll while imagining life in the Sengoku period. The Shijihara River (志路原川) flowing beside the park has clean water and a gentle current, so the appeal is being able to enjoy casual water play between stretches of the historical walk. In a quiet setting surrounded by satoyama countryside, it is the climax of a day in touch with both history and nature.

Tips

The car park is at the park entrance and is free to use. The Shijihara River varies in current speed from place to place, so never take your eyes off small children. Non-slip river shoes are reassuring.

Best time to visit

After around noon, when the sun has warmed the water, is the best time for river play.
