Leisurely Viewing of the Sculpture Gallery and Garden Suikeien (邃渓園)

About this spot

Taishakuten, where Tora-san bathed as an infant in the film 'It's Tough Being a Man.' Passing through the Niten Gate, you're welcomed by a magnificent pine tree, Zuiryu no Matsu. The highlights are the sculpture gallery carved with scenes from the Lotus Sutra and the stroll garden Suikeien. The intricate woodcarvings captivate both adults and children with their power, and the corridor-style garden is enjoyable simply to walk through.

Tips

A combined ticket for the sculpture gallery and garden is more economical. Since shoes are removed in the corridor, easy-to-remove footwear is recommended. The temple grounds are accessible with a baby stroller.

Best time to visit

Allow 60–90 minutes. Early morning visits are quieter with fewer worshippers.
