Nakamise Shopping Street (仲見世商店街)

Flow of the course

About this spot

One of Japan's oldest shopping streets, stretching about 250m from the Thunder Gate to Senso-ji Temple. Lined with stalls selling ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped cakes), fried manju, and kibi-dango that kids love, this street is perfect for snacking and eating as you walk. Many shops sell Edo toys and traditional crafts, making it ideal for family souvenir hunting. Choosing small Japanese sweets creates wonderful memories.

Tips

The center of the street gets crowded—step to the side to eat. Ningyo-yaki is best enjoyed fresh from the shop. Early morning hours make the street easier to navigate with a stroller.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour. Morning hours are relatively easier to walk through.
