Asukayama Park (飛鳥山公園)

About this spot

Asukayama Park is one of Kita City's signature parks, loved as a cherry-blossom spot since the Edo period. The grounds sit on a low hill, where a steam locomotive and a Toden streetcar that were once in real service are on display, popular with children who love vehicles. A small ride called Asukarugo carries visitors easily to the top of the hill, so even families with little ones who find slopes hard can move around happily. A historical museum connected with Shibusawa Eiichi (渋沢栄一) stands next door, offering a touch of history. The lawn is broad and just the right size for moving about a little before the water play.

Tips

The park is right by JR Oji Station (王子駅) and the Asukayama stop on the Toden Arakawa Line, so access is easy. Asukarugo is free to ride, so make use of it if you would rather avoid the slope. There is little shade around the display vehicles, so remember a hat and plenty to drink in summer.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. The morning is less crowded and recommended for a relaxed look around
