About this spot
This river-play spot uses the Uehara Canal flowing through Taira in Omachi, affectionately known locally as ‘Nurume.’ Fed by snowmelt from the Northern Alps, the canal stays cold and clear even in midsummer, making it perfect for water play on a hot day. It's open at all times, free to enter, and has no closed days, so it's easy to visit on a whim. Much of the canal has shallow stretches, letting even small children safely enjoy the water.
Season & hours
Name: わっぱらんど(上原用水・ぬるめ)
Date & time: 常時開放・日没まで(定休日なし・入場無料)
Venue: 大町市平・上原用水(北アルプス雪解け水の農業用水路)
Tips
Since the water is snowmelt, it feels colder than the air temperature, so it's reassuring to bring something to wrap up in. The bottom can be slippery with rocks and moss, so water shoes make it safer. Playing during sunny hours is more comfortable.
Best time to visit
After 1 p.m., when the sun is out, is recommended — it makes the cold water easier to enjoy.
