About this spot
A river-play spot using the Uehara irrigation channel that flows through Taira in Omachi City, known locally by the affectionate name Nurume. The channel, fed by snowmelt from the Northern Alps, stays cold and clear even in midsummer, making it perfect for water play on hot days. It is open at all times and admission is free, with no closing days, so it is easy to visit whenever the mood strikes. Many stretches are shallow and gentle, so even small children can safely get comfortable with the water.

Tips
Because it is snowmelt, the water feels colder than the air, so something to layer on is reassuring. The bed is slippery with stones and moss, so water shoes are safer. Choosing the sunnier hours to play is more comfortable.

The sunny hours from just after 1:00 p.m. are recommended, making the cold water easier to play in
