Pay your respects at one of the three great temples of Kiso
About this spot
An ancient Rinzai-sect temple in Okuwa Village, counted alongside Myogi-ji and Chofuku-ji among the three great temples of Kiso. In the quiet precincts standing beside the Kiso River, buildings such as the main gate and main hall convey a sense of history, offering the composed atmosphere that defines the Kisoji. Before heading to the valley, it is a fitting spot to begin the journey by touching on the history of Kiso. The precincts are surrounded by trees, so the air stays cool even in summer.

木曽郡大桑村を流れる阿寺川がつくる渓谷で、2026年は7月18日(土)から9月6日(日)まで多くの家族連れでにぎわいます(9月12〜13日・19〜23日はキャンプ場宿泊者以外車両規制)。エメラルドグリーンに輝く水の透明度は日本有数とも言われ、淵や瀬が連なる川沿いは川遊びにぴったりの環境です。木曽の山々に囲まれた自然の中で、浅瀬での水遊びから少し深い淵での水泳まで、家族それぞれの楽しみ方ができます。
Tips
水は北アルプス山系の雪解け水と違い山からの湧水由来ですが、それでも真夏でもひんやりと冷たいので羽織るものがあると安心です。岩場や苔で滑りやすい場所があるのでウォーターシューズを用意しましょう。規制期間外でもアクセス道路が狭い区間があるので運転には注意してください。
Tips
It can be reached from National Route 19. The precincts are quiet for much of the day, so you can worship calmly. In summer, resting in the shade of the trees is recommended.

About 45 minutes. The quiet morning hours allow for an unhurried visit
