About this spot

One of the sixty-nine post towns of the Nakasendo, this town is a leading example of the Kiso Road, retaining a strong sense of Edo-period streetscape. Efforts such as burying power lines underground preserve the scenery, letting you walk through streets that feel like a set from a period drama. There are many eateries and souvenir shops, so you can enjoy local Kiso cuisine while strolling. It's a chance to experience the historic atmosphere of the Kiso Road before heading to Momosuke Bridge Riverside Park.

Tips

It can be reached from Nagiso Station on foot or by bus. The streets have many stone-paved paths and slopes, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. In summer, it's more comfortable to stroll while avoiding direct sun.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. A quiet morning time slot makes it easier to walk around.
