Riverbank play on the Kiso River beside a historic suspension bridge

About this spot

A riverside park spreading along the Kiso River in Yomikaki, Nagiso Town, open year-round. Beside the park stands Momosuke Bridge, a wooden suspension bridge built in the Taisho era and designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan, a precious piece of civil-engineering heritage. The great appeal is playing in the shallows on the banks of the Kiso River while looking at the historic bridge up close. Wrapped in the clear water and mountain greenery unique to the Kisoji, families can spend an unhurried stretch of time.

Tips

Because the water flows down from upstream, it feels cold even in midsummer, so something to layer on is reassuring. The riverbank has many stones and is slippery, so water shoes are safer. Choosing the sunny hours to play is more comfortable.

Best time to visit

The sunny hours from around 1:00 p.m. are recommended, making the cold water easier to play in
