Hagachizaki Monkey Bay (波勝崎モンキーベイ) is a nature park where you can see up close several hundred Japanese macaques living around the cape in Koura, Minami-Izu. From the parking lot to the plaza on the cape, you walk along a path within the park that has steep slopes and steps. At the plaza, you can watch wild monkeys roaming freely, and the open location overlooking the Pacific Ocean is another highlight. It's a fun stopover spot for families to connect with nature before swimming.
Tips
About a 10-minute drive from Koura Beach (子浦海水浴場). Please do not feed the monkeys carelessly, and it's a good idea to keep your bags closed. The monorail may be suspended depending on the weather, so checking in advance is recommended.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 30 minutes. Mornings tend to be relatively uncrowded, allowing for leisurely observation.
