Umi Hoozuki Wanpaku Iso, at the Shima City Hamajima Rocky Shore Experience Facility Umi Hoozuki, is a facility where you can enjoy rock-pool play on an artificial shallow shore with tide pools. Official information says it opens from mid-April to the end of October, admits visitors 9:30-16:00, and closes on Tuesdays (open daily during the summer holiday period). There are two areas, one 40 cm deep and one 60 cm deep, so children can get used to the shallower one first and then move to the deeper one at their own pace, which is reassuring. The design is barrier-free and includes changing rooms and warm showers, so changing after playing goes smoothly. No reservation is needed, so it also helps that you can look at the weather on the day before setting out. Admission to the Wanpaku Iso area is 1,000 yen for elementary school age and above, 500 yen for preschoolers aged 3 and over, and free for children aged 2 and under.

Swim rings, viewing boxes and hand nets cannot be brought in, and neither can packed lunches or alcohol. Finish lunch before you enter the facility. Be sure to bring water shoes so you do not cut your feet on the rocks. It closes on Tuesdays (open daily during the summer holiday period), so do not forget to check the day of the week. Admission ends at 16:00, so allow time to change and come out by around 15:00.

About 2 hours 20 minutes. The afternoon sea breeze makes it comfortable, and since you can enter from 9:30 you can also come earlier on days you want to avoid the crowds
