About this spot

This museum brings together the history and culture of Kameoka, with exhibits covering the path from ancient Tanba through the castle-town era to the present day. Excavated pottery and everyday tools are lined up in a way that makes it clear even to children that people long ago used these things. Kameoka prospered for a long time as the centre of Tanba, so it is interesting to see that it has layers of history different from those of central Kyoto. The building is air-conditioned, so you can spend a summer morning in the cool. It is within walking distance of JR Kameoka Station and is just the right size for the first stop of the day.

かめきたサンガ広場の噴水は、JR亀岡駅北側の広場にある、地面から水が噴き出すタイプの水遊び場です。池や柵がなく、噴き出す水の間を自由に走り回れるので、体を思いきり動かしたい子どもにはうってつけの遊び場になっています。2026年の夏休み期間は7/18(土)〜8/31(月)の9:00〜21:00に毎日運転され、通常は4月下旬〜11月下旬の土日祝に運転、11月下旬〜4月下旬頃は運転休止です。18時からはライトアップが始まり、光を受けた水しぶきが昼間とはまったく違う表情を見せます。料金は無料で、駅を出てすぐという立地のため、疲れたらすぐ帰れる気軽さもこの広場の良さです。

Tips

更衣室の案内は出ていないので、水着は下に着ていくかタオルポンチョを用意すると着替えがスムーズです。広場は日陰が限られるため、日中はレジャーシートと帽子で日差し対策をしてください。夕方まで遊ぶ場合は、濡れた体が冷えないよう羽織りものを一枚用意しておくと安心です。ライトアップは18時からなので、暗くなる時間帯まで残るなら帰りの電車の時刻を先に確認しておきましょう。

Tips

Checking the opening hours, closed days and admission fee in the official information in advance is the sure approach. Exhibition rooms are meant to be viewed quietly, so agreeing in advance not to run makes for a calmer visit. Ask at the entrance whether strollers are allowed inside. From here you can reach Galleria Kameoka, which doubles as a roadside station, by car or by local bus.
