Eshima (絵島)

About this spot

Eshima (絵島) is a tiny island of only a small circumference floating beside the harbor of Iwaya in Awaji City. It is said to be the island that appears in the myth of the creation of the land, and it has long been loved as a symbol of Awaji. The combination of the striped layers of sandstone carved out by waves and wind with the small shrine standing at its summit has a far stranger presence in person than in photographs. Being next to the harbor, you can also sense the life of the island itself through the fishing boats coming and going and the smell of the sea. Awajishima Park (淡路島公園) is only about 10 minutes away by car, a good distance for a first stop of the morning.

兵庫県立淡路島公園水の遊び場(じゃぶじゃぶ池)は、公園の交流ゾーンにある無料の水遊び場です。例年4月1日(水)から10月31日(土)まで利用でき、夏だけでなく春や秋の暑い日にも水にふれられるのが、この場所の使いやすさにつながっています。すぐそばに大きな芝生広場と木の遊び場があるため、水に飽きたら遊具、体が冷えたら芝生と、遊び方を切り替えながら長い時間を過ごせます。2026年の確定した日程と時間はまだ公表されていないので、出かける前に公園のお知らせを確かめてください。なお2026年は8月7日(金)が利用不可と公式に案内されています。着替えの用意をして出かけることがすすめられており、ペットの入水はできません。

Tips

料金は無料です。着替えの設備は限られるので、水着は服の下に着ていき、バスタオルを一枚多めに持っていくと困りません。ぬれた服を入れるビニール袋を人数分用意しておくと帰りが快適です。園内は起伏があるので、駐車場から水の遊び場までの経路を先に確かめておくと荷物運びが楽になります。日ざしの強い時間帯は木陰で休憩をはさみ、こまめに水分をとらせましょう。

Tips

Access to the island itself is restricted, so you will be viewing it from the shore. There is little to block the sun, so put a hat on the children from the start. The harbor of Iwaya and its shops are nearby, so you can restock drinks here. Sea spray can make footing slippery, so keep hold of your children's hands near the water.
