About this spot

Although it lies between Sapporo Station and Odori, this botanic garden preserves the forest as it was before the pioneering era. The grounds are wide, and aged trees cover the sky overhead, so the air feels chilly even in midsummer. There are also groups of wooden buildings put up in the Meiji era and displays about northern peoples, making it a place to trace with your children how the city of Sapporo began. Even on a day when you want to save energy for the afternoon water play, simply walking in the shade of the trees is a pleasant way to spend time. Odori Park (大通公園) is within walking distance, so you will not tire yourself out getting there, which is another welcome point.

大通公園遊水路は、札幌の中心部で気軽に水遊びができる無料の水辺です。2026年は6月1日(月)から9月20日(日)まで、10:00〜16:00に開放されます。西2丁目・西9丁目付近に浅い遊水路と噴水があり、水深が浅いので歩き始めたばかりの子でも足をひたして遊べます。まわりは芝生と木立なので、大人は木陰のベンチに座って見守りながらゆっくり過ごせるのも街なかならでは。公園内にはトイレと売店があり、飲み物やおやつをその場で調達できます。地下鉄の駅がすぐそばにあるので、遊び疲れても帰り道が短いのが家族連れには心強いところです。

Tips

天候・清掃等により開放が変更されることがあるため、出発前に当日の状況を確認してください。着替えは公園内のトイレを利用できますが、混み合う時間帯もあるので早めに動くと落ち着いて支度できます。石畳や縁石で足を滑らせないよう、水遊び用サンダルを履かせておくと安心です。終了は16:00なので、15時半ごろから片づけを始めると余裕をもって帰れます。

Tips

Open periods and hours change with the season, so check the official website before departing. Many paths in the grounds are gravel or earth, so comfortable walking shoes are best. You can get around with a stroller, but the depths of the forest are undulating, so a baby carrier is reassuring. The shop is small, so prepare drinks in advance.
