Nakajima Park Water Play Area

The Nakajima Park Water Play Area is a free waterside where you can enjoy playing in the stream around Shobu Pond (菖蒲池) inside the park. The opening period for 2026 has not been announced; in past years it has fallen within the summer holidays. Sapporo City's information states that no fixed opening period or hours are set, so you play while watching the state of the water on the day. Unlike a deep pool this is a shallow stream, so even small children can start simply by dipping their feet, which is reassuring. Trees surround the area and block the sunshine, so adults can watch over everyone from the cool of the bank. There are restrooms and a shop in the park, so changing and buying drinks are both handled on the spot.

Tips

Because no opening period or hours are fixed, check the situation for that day before you head out. Water play sandals are reassuring so that stones and grit do not cut little feet. It is a short walk from Nakajima-koen Station and Horohirabashi Station on the subway, so the way home after changing is short, which helps. The evening brings more shade and a chill, so dry off and change into dry clothes promptly.

Best time to visit

Two hours from 2 p.m. gives you plenty of play time as the sunshine softens.
