Sapporo Astronomical Observatory (札幌市天文台)
About this spot
A small observatory standing in one corner of Nakajima Park (中島公園), marked by its white dome. Inside there is a telescope, and on some days you can hear staff talk while looking at exhibits about the stars and the universe. It is not large, but that is exactly why children can take their time looking at things at their own eye level. Being indoors, you can avoid the morning sun and save energy before the water play. The Toyohira River Green Space is within walking distance, and the route through the trees of Nakajima Park makes for a pleasant walk in itself.

豊平川緑地 水遊び場は、札幌市中央区の豊平川緑地(南11条西1丁目地先)にある無料の水辺です。2026年の開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間にあたります。豊平川の河川敷に広がる緑地の中にあり、街なかの公園にはない広い空と開放感が最大の魅力です。まわりに高い建物がないので、風が抜けて水の冷たさがいっそう気持ちよく感じられます。地下鉄中島公園駅・幌平橋駅から歩ける距離にあり、思い立った日に出かけやすいのも中央区ならではの利点です。土手の草の上にシートを広げれば、そのまま夕方までのんびり過ごせます。
Tips
河川敷は日陰が少ないので、帽子と日よけ、多めの飲み物を必ず用意してください。川の水位は天候で変わります。上流で雨が降っている日や増水しているときは近づかず、当日の状況を確認してから出発しましょう。足元は石や砂利なので水遊び用サンダルが必須です。着替えの場所は限られるため、上から羽織れるタオルやポンチョがあると便利です。
Tips
Opening days and hours change with the season, so be sure to check in advance. It is a place to look around quietly, so promising not to run is reassuring. Restrooms are in Nakajima Park. On some days there are evening stargazing sessions, so if that interests you, working it into the plan for another day is also recommended.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. The quiet time just after opening lets you look around at leisure.
