A historic building that remains inside Nagayama Memorial Park (永山記念公園), where a Meiji-era residence and a Western-style building put up later are joined together. Tatami rooms and Western rooms stand side by side within a single building, and the way the changing eras took physical form is the highlight here. Looking out at the garden from the veranda, there is a stillness that makes you forget you are in the middle of the city. Because it is in the same park as the water play area you will visit in the afternoon, there is no travel burden at all, which is the advantage of how this day is put together. Take a peek with your children at the life of a figure who helped shape Sapporo in the pioneer era.

Tips

Check the official information for opening hours, closing days and whether entry is possible. Part of the interior requires taking off your shoes, so footwear that is easy to slip on and off is convenient. Agreeing in advance not to run and not to touch the exhibits makes for a calmer visit.
