Showa Park (昭和公園) Stream / Fountain (water play)
About this spot
The Showa Park (昭和公園) Stream / Fountain is a free water play spot in Showa, Hakodate City. In 2026 it opens from Wednesday, July 1, becoming available as soon as preparations are complete (the closing date has not been announced). Because the stream and the fountain are together in one place, children who want to walk along the current and children who want to be doused in spray can each play their own way. The park has large playground equipment, so the fun never stops even when the children tire of the water, which is a major appeal. With restrooms and a parking lot in place, it is easy to plan a full day here even with small children. Although it sits within Hakodate's urban area, it is spacious, so adults can also watch over the children at ease in the shade.
Season & hours
Name: 昭和公園 せせらぎ・噴水(水遊び)
Date & time: 7/1 (Wed)より準備が整い次第利用可(終了日は未発表)
Venue: 函館市・昭和公園
Tips
The opening status depends on how preparations progress, so check the Hakodate City information before you leave. The stones in the stream get slippery when wet, so water-play sandals are a safe choice. Changing spaces are limited, so putting swimsuits on under clothes makes getting ready on site much easier. The sea is close by and wind can pick up in the evening, so bring an extra layer and plenty of dry towels.
Best time to visit
Arriving at 13:50 gives you about 3 hours, playing until the evening when the sun softens
