This shrine in the built-up area of Otofuke Town (音更町) has long been cherished by local residents. The grounds are surrounded by trees, so the air feels cool even in summer. Many shrines in Hokkaido (北海道) have advanced alongside the history of pioneer settlement, and reading the founding record reveals how the town came into being. The sound of gravel underfoot on the approach and the shifting dappled light create a stillness that settles your mind for the day ahead. It also makes a good opportunity to teach children the etiquette of the purification basin and the order of prayer. Since it takes little time, it is easy to work in as the first stop of the morning.

希望が丘公園噴水(水遊び)は、音更町の希望が丘公園にある無料の水遊び場です。主役は大きな噴水で、勢いよく吹き上がる水を追いかけたり、その下をくぐったりと、子どもたちは自分なりの遊び方をすぐに見つけます。例年の期間は6月1日(月)から9月30日(水)、時間は10:00から18:00で、音更町の案内では「6月上旬〜9月下旬」と紹介されています。住宅地の中にある公園なので、地元の家族連れが多く、のんびりとした雰囲気の中で過ごせます。無料で利用できるうえ、深いプールではないため、小さな子でも保護者が見守りながら安心して遊ばせられます。芝生にシートを広げて、遊ぶ子どもを眺めながら夕方までゆっくりするのがこの公園の楽しみ方です。

噴水の稼働状況は天候や気温に左右されるため、出かける前に音更町の案内で当日の状況を確認してください(出典: https://www.town.otofuke.hokkaido.jp/kurashi/toshi/koen/mizuasobi.html)。着替えの場所は限られるので、上から羽織れるタオルやポンチョがあると便利です。日陰は先に埋まりやすいため、到着したらまず木陰の場所を確保しましょう。18時で終了するので、着替えと片づけの時間を見込んで動くと余裕が生まれます。

The grounds are a place to be quiet, so entering after promising not to run makes things go smoothly. The hours when the shrine office is open may be limited. Mosquitoes are around in summer, so insect repellent makes the visit more comfortable. If you come by car, follow the guidance for parking spaces around the grounds.
