The Miyabe Memorial Green Space Water Play Area (宮部記念緑地 水遊び場) is a free water play spot at Miyabe Memorial Green Space (宮部記念緑地) in Sapporo's Chuo Ward. In 2026, it's open from Monday, June 29 through Sunday, August 30, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Because it's a shallow water play area, you don't need to worry about depth, and even a child who has just learned to walk can start by dipping their feet in. Although it's within walking distance of Sapporo Station (札幌駅), it has the calm atmosphere of a spot where neighborhood children play, with no lines or waiting — a real plus. It's small enough that an adult on a shaded bench can keep an eye on the whole area, making it well suited to a first water play experience too. A short trip home after playing is another benefit unique to a green space in the middle of the city.

Tips

Operation of the water play area can change depending on the weather, so check the day's status before heading out. Have kids wear water-play sandals to avoid cutting their feet. Changing space is limited, so a towel or poncho they can throw on over their clothes comes in handy. Since the area has many homes and offices, remind children to keep it quiet nearby. Closing time is 4:00pm, so starting to pack up by 3:30pm leaves plenty of time to head home.
