The Kariho Park Water Play Area is a shallow water play spot that appears only in summer at Kariho Park in Higashi Ward, Sapporo. In 2026 it is open from Friday, July 3 to Sunday, August 23, from 10:00 to 16:00, and use is free. The water is shallow, so even children who have just started walking can stand on their own feet and play. There is no changeover or waiting in line as at a pool; you get in when you want to and rest in the shade when you are tired, and that free rhythm is the charm of a park water play area. Children who watched the fountain at Moerenuma Park in the morning often step into the water on their own, which makes the flow gentle even for those wary of water. Families also appreciate being close enough to finish in the late afternoon and simply walk home.

There is no changing room, so wear swimwear underneath or bring a wrap towel to change with. Sapporo summers turn chilly the moment the sun goes in, so always bring a layer to put on afterward. Shade is limited, so a picnic sheet and hats make breaks much easier.

Arrive at 14:20 and you can play until the sun softens, enjoying it fully right up to the 16:00 close
