The shrine that represents Shiroishi Ward in Sapporo, known for receiving some of Hokkaido's largest crowds of New Year worshippers. On an ordinary summer morning it is quiet, and the tree-wrapped grounds are filled with cool air, so simply walking there settles the mind. Passing under the torii gate, purifying your hands at the water basin, and bowing toward the main hall is a small ceremony that stays with children. Beginning a day of water play by first asking for safety is a way of spending time unique to a town with its own local shrine nearby. The grounds are a comfortable size, so even small children can walk a full circuit without tiring.

川下公園カナール(水遊び)は、札幌市白石区の川下公園にある全長約170mの水路を使った水遊び場です。2026年は7月1日(水)から8月31日(月)まで、10:00〜16:00に開放され、利用は無料です。水路に沿って壁泉や噴水が配置されているので、ただ浸かるだけでなく、上流から下流へ歩いていく道のりそのものが遊びになります。壁から流れ落ちる水に打たれたり、噴き上がる水をよけて走ったりと、遊び方を自分で見つけられるのがカナールの面白いところ。園内にはリラックスプラザやトイレ、駐車場がそろっているので、荷物の多い家族連れでも一日腰を据えて過ごせます。夕方まで水に浸かって、帰りにライラックの木陰でひと息つけば、夏休みらしい一日の締めくくりになります。

Tips

開放は10:00〜16:00です。毎週金曜は清掃のため午前中は水を減らしているので、金曜に行くなら午後に合わせてください。監視員はいないため、水の深さにかかわらず大人が必ずそばで見守ってください。水路の底で足を切らないよう、水遊び用サンダルを履かせるのが安心です。更衣室は用意されていないので、水着は下に着ていくか、ラップタオルなどで着替えられる準備をしておきましょう。札幌の夏は日が陰ると急に涼しくなるので、上がったあとに羽織る一枚を必ず持っていってください。

Tips

Promise your children in advance to worship quietly and to bow before the torii gate, and the visit will go calmly. There are no shops in the grounds, so prepare drinks before you leave. It can be crowded on days with events, so follow the on-site guidance when parking. Kawashimo Park is only about ten minutes away by car, so leaving in the ten o'clock hour gives your morning plenty of room.
