Kawashimo Park Canal (Water Play)

About this spot

The Kawashimo Park Canal (Water Play) is a water play area built around a waterway roughly 170 meters long in Kawashimo Park, Shiroishi Ward, Sapporo. In 2026 it is open from Wednesday, July 1 to Monday, August 31, from 10:00 to 16:00, and use is free. Wall fountains and jets are set along the waterway, so it is not just about soaking: the very journey of walking from upstream to downstream becomes the play. Getting hit by water falling from the walls, dodging the rising jets as you run — the fun of the canal is that children find their own ways to play. The Relax Plaza, restrooms, and parking are all on site, so even families carrying a lot of gear can settle in for the whole day. Stay in the water until late afternoon, then catch your breath in the lilac shade on the way home, and you have the perfect close to a summer-holiday day.

Tips

Open 10:00 to 16:00. Every Friday the water is lowered in the morning for cleaning, so if you go on a Friday, plan for the afternoon. There are no lifeguards, so regardless of the water depth an adult must always stay close and keep watch. Water play sandals are a safe choice so children do not cut their feet on the bottom of the waterway. No changing rooms are provided, so wear swimwear underneath or bring a wrap towel to change with. Sapporo summers turn chilly the moment the sun goes in, so always bring a layer to put on afterward.

Best time to visit

Get in at 14:00 and you can avoid the peak crowds while walking the waterway back and forth right up to the 16:00 close
