A library specializing in picture books, located in Shiroishi Ward, Sapporo. Its defining feature is that the shelves are built low, at a child's height, so kids can walk around and pick out books with their own hands. The atmosphere is relaxed enough that you need not worry if a read-aloud voice carries, so even families with little ones can take it easy here. Because it is indoors, it is an ideal place to spend a cool morning before the sun gets strong. Starting a water-play day quietly makes the contrast all the more satisfying when you throw yourselves into the afternoon.

万生公園水遊び場は、札幌市白石区の万生公園に夏だけ現れる浅い水遊び場です。2026年は7月10日(金)から8月31日(月)まで、10:00〜16:30に開放され、利用は無料です。この公園のよいところは、水遊び場のすぐそばにコンビネーション遊具があること。体が冷えてきたら遊具に登って温め直し、汗をかいたらまた水に戻る、という行き来ができるので、水が得意な子も苦手な子も同じ場所で一緒に遊べます。水深が浅いため、歩き始めたばかりの子でも自分の足で立って遊べるのも安心なところ。近所の子どもたちが集まるので、その日はじめて会った子と自然に遊びだす姿もよく見られます。

Tips

開放は10:00〜16:30ですが、天候や清掃の都合で変わることがあるため、出発前に札幌市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。遊具はぬれた足で登ると滑るので、遊具に向かうときは足を拭いて靴を履かせるようにしましょう。更衣室はないので、水着は下に着ていくか、ラップタオルなどで着替えられる用意をしておくと安心です。札幌の夏は日が陰ると急に涼しくなるので、上がったあとに羽織る一枚を必ず持っていってください。

Tips

Check the opening hours and closed days in advance. Eating and drinking are restricted inside, so have drinks outside. It is easy to enter with a stroller, but the area near the entrance can get tight at busy times. Heading straight to Sapporo Factory after leaving the library keeps the morning to a single trip.
