The Science Center Park Water Play Area is a shallow summer-only water play spot at Science Center Park in Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo. In 2026 it is open from Wednesday, July 1 to Monday, August 31, from 9:30 to 16:30, and admission is free. Because it adjoins the Sapporo Science Center (札幌市青少年科学館) and Sunpiazza Aquarium, you can walk back and forth between indoor facilities and the water — a strength unique to this park. If it rains you can slip indoors, and if your child tires of the water the next destination is right there. The water is shallow, so even a child who has only just started walking can stand on their own feet and play, which is reassuring. Being able to enjoy water play this casually in a spot as convenient as the area in front of Shin-Sapporo Station is one of Atsubetsu Ward's blessings.

Open 9:30 to 16:30. Some days it closes because of bad weather, cleaning or water quality management, so check the City of Sapporo's information for that day's status before you set out. There are no changing rooms, so wear swimwear under your clothes or bring a wrap towel so you can change. Sapporo summers turn suddenly cool once the sun goes in, so you will need a layer to put on after getting out. It is a busy spot, so take care not to leave your belongings unattended.

Best time to visit

Arrive at 14:20 and you can play until the sunlight softens, enjoying it fully until the 16:30 close.
