Sumikawa Sunny Park Water Play Area, in Sumikawa Sunny Park in Minami Ward, Sapporo, is a paddling pool that is free to use. The 2026 season runs from Friday 10 July to Tuesday 25 August, with hours of 10:00 to 16:00. The pool, about 30 cm deep, has two water slides, and elementary schoolers can whoop their way down them over and over. Next to it is a shallow area about 10 cm deep fitted with an elephant-shaped slide, so preschoolers can play safely at a depth matched to their own height. Because areas of different depths sit side by side, siblings with a wide age gap can enjoy the place at the same time, and that is the real strength of this water play area. Admission is free, so dropping in for the afternoon only also works well.

Tips
Closing time is 16:00. Allowing for changing and packing up, get out of the water around 15:45. Queues can form at the slides, so arriving between 13:00 and 14:00 rather than at the busy early-afternoon peak keeps things moving. The facility may be unavailable depending on weather, water temperature or cleaning work, so check the City of Sapporo information page for that day's status before you set out. Children not yet out of nappies should bring swim nappies.
