About this spot

A historic site in Teine Yamaguchi, Teine-ku, connected to the great locust outbreak of the Meiji era. The place where people gathered and buried the eggs of the locusts that were devouring their crops remains as a mound, conveying to this day the hardships of pioneer-era people facing a natural disaster. It is not a flashy attraction, but reading the information board and picturing the scene of the time puts you in touch with a memory of the land that textbooks do not offer. The surroundings are a peaceful landscape of fields and windbreak forest, with an openness that makes you forget you are inside Sapporo. The visit is short, making it just right as a morning stop.

札幌市手稲区の前田公園にある「前田公園水遊び場」は、無料で利用できる浅い水遊び場です。開設は例年7月1日(水)ごろから8月31日(月)ごろまで、時間は10:00〜16:00で、札幌市の案内は「7月上旬〜8月下旬」としています。水深が浅いため、まだ泳げない小さな子どもでも自分の足で入っていけます。住宅街のなかの公園なので、地元の子どもたちに混じって遊ぶふだんの夏の風景に加われるのも魅力です。入れ替え時間がないので、遊びと休憩を子どものペースで繰り返せます。料金は無料で、午後だけ短く立ち寄る使い方にも向いています。

Tips

終了は16:00です。着替えと片づけを考えて15:45ごろには水から上がりましょう。開設日は年によって前後するため、出かける前に札幌市の案内ページで当日の状況を確認してください。日陰が限られる時間帯があるので、帽子と日焼け止めは忘れずに。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意しましょう。

Tips

The area around it is farmland, so please do not enter fields or private property. Parking space is limited, so avoid parking on the road and be considerate of surrounding traffic. Insects are numerous when the summer grass grows tall, so long trousers and repellent are reassuring.
