Shinei-Nishi Park Water Play Area, in Shinei-Nishi Park (真栄西公園) in Kiyota Ward, Sapporo, is a shallow water play area that is free to use. According to the City of Sapporo, in 2026 it is open from Sunday, July 5 to Sunday, August 23, from 9:00 to 17:00, running for 50 days from the first Sunday of July. Because the water is shallow, even a child trying water play for the first time can wade in on their own two feet, which is reassuring. It has the friendly feel of a neighborhood park, so children naturally end up playing alongside local kids. There are no changeover times or restrictions, so play and rest can alternate at your child's own pace. It is free, so it also works well as a short afternoon stop.

Tips

It closes at 17:00. Getting out of the water around 16:30 leaves time to change and pack up without rushing. There are days when it cannot be used because of the weather, the water temperature or cleaning work, so check the City of Sapporo information page for that day's status before you leave. There are hours when shade is limited, so do not forget a hat and sunscreen. Children who are not yet out of diapers should bring swim diapers.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 45 minutes. The afternoon, when the temperature rises, is the most pleasant time to play.
