The Sanae Natsudori Green Space Water Play Area, located in the Sanae Natsudori Green Space in Kiyota-ku, Sapporo, is a shallow water play spot that is free to use. According to the City of Sapporo, in 2026 it is open from Sunday, July 5 to Sunday, August 23, from 9:00 to 17:00, running for 50 days from the first Sunday of July. The water is shallow, so even preschoolers who are not used to water can wade in slowly from their feet. It sits in a green space within a residential area, and families appreciate being able to spread a picnic sheet in the shade and rest between play sessions. Unlike a pool, there are no timed sessions, so children can play as long as they like and rest when they have had enough. Since it is free, you can also just drop by for a short afternoon visit.

Tips

Closing time is 17:00. Allowing for tidying up and changing clothes, getting out of the water around 16:30 leaves you plenty of time to head home. Shade is limited at certain hours, so bringing a parasol or hats is reassuring in case tents are not allowed. Some days are unavailable due to weather, water temperature or cleaning work, so check the City of Sapporo information page for the day before you set out. Children who are not toilet trained should wear swim diapers.
