A museum bearing the name of Nakahara Teijiro, a sculptor with ties to Asahikawa. The building is a wooden Western-style hall erected as the social club for the officers of the old Army 7th Division, and the building itself is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Rows of sculptures in human form catch a child eye more easily than paintings, and conversation starts naturally around what each figure is doing. The creak of the wooden floor and the high ceilings mean the structure itself becomes part of the experience, something unique to this place. It is within walking distance of Shunkoen Park (春光園), making it a perfect stop to open the day.

春光園徒渉池は、旭川市の春光園に夏のあいだだけ開かれる浅い水遊び場です。2026年は6月1日(月)から8月31日(月)まで、10:00〜17:00に開放され、利用は無料です。水深が浅いので、歩き始めたばかりの子でも自分の足で立って歩き回れるのが安心なところ。順番待ちも入れ替えもないので、入っては上がりを子どものペースで繰り返せます。大きな木が育った古い公園なので木陰が多く、大人が休みながら見守れるのも助かる点です。午前に歩いた歴史ある街並みと同じ場所で、今の子どもたちの声が響くという対比も、この一日ならではの味わいになります。

Tips

開放は10:00〜17:00です。天候不良や清掃、水質管理の都合で休みになることがあるため、出発前に旭川市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。更衣室は用意されていない前提で、水着は下に着ていくと着替えが楽になります。木陰は多めですが、レジャーシートがあると荷物置きと休憩場所を兼ねられて便利です。北海道の夏は日が傾くと急に涼しくなるので、上がったあとに羽織れる薄手の一枚を必ず持っていきましょう。

Tips

Check the admission fee and closing days on the official website in advance. It is a wooden building, so agreeing with children beforehand not to run indoors brings peace of mind. Almost none of the sculptures may be touched, so walking hand in hand avoids trouble. Keep the visit to about an hour and save energy for the water play in the afternoon.
