A prefectural museum of Hokkaido standing amid the greenery of Tokiwa Park. Because the Asahikawa area developed as a centre of furniture and woodworking, a major feature of the museum is its focus on collecting forms made from wood. Since a familiar material like wood has been turned into art, children respond better here than at a museum of paintings alone, and conversations grow out of the surprise of realising something is made of wood. The interior is quiet and air-conditioned, making it well suited to a slow-paced hot morning. Depending on the special exhibition, hands-on activities for children are sometimes offered.

金星公園徒渉池は、旭川市の金星公園に夏のあいだだけ開かれる浅い水遊び場です。2026年は6月1日(月)から8月31日(月)まで、10:00〜17:00に開放され、利用は無料です。水深が浅いので、歩き始めたばかりの子でも自分の足で立って遊べるのが安心なところ。入場料も入れ替えもないので、水に入って走り、疲れたら岸で休むという自由なリズムで過ごせます。市街地に近い立地なので、午前に美術館や常磐公園を回ってから寄るという一日の組み立てが無理なく成り立ちます。夕方まで遊んで、そのまま歩いて帰れる距離感も家族連れにはありがたい点です。

Tips

開放は10:00〜17:00です。天候不良や清掃、水質管理の都合で休みになることがあるため、出発前に旭川市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。更衣室は用意されていない前提で、水着は下に着ていくか、ラップタオルなどで着替えられる準備をしておきましょう。日陰が限られるためレジャーシートと帽子があると休憩が楽になります。北海道の夏は日が陰ると急に涼しくなるので、上がったあとに羽織れる一枚を必ず持っていってください。

Tips

Check the admission fee, closing days and current exhibitions on the official website in advance. You need to stay quiet in the galleries, so for children at an age when they want to run, keeping the visit short and letting them burn off energy in Tokiwa Park instead makes for a smoother plan. The layout can be navigated with a stroller, but when crowded it can be easier to leave it at the entrance. Store your bags in a coin locker and go around unencumbered.
