About this spot

This is a science museum for children in central Wakayama City where you learn about science by experiencing it. The exhibits are mostly things you try with your hands rather than just look at, so even small children get absorbed on their own. There is also a planetarium, where you can spend a relaxed stretch of time and forget the heat outside, which is a real blessing in summer. Each floor has its own theme, so you can also narrow down which floors to visit according to everyone's stamina. Spend the later part of the morning cool and indoors and save your energy for the afternoon in the water. It is within walking distance of both Honmachi Park and Wakayama Castle.

和歌山市の本町公園に開設される、夏季限定の幼児プール「本町公園幼児プール」です。2026年は7月18日(土)から8月12日(水)まで、午後1時から午後4時まで開設されます。対象は小学校就学前の幼児のみで、小学生以上は利用できません。保護者の同伴が必須で、水着の着用が必要です。水遊び用以外の紙おむつ・紙パンツでは利用できないため、おむつが取れていない子には水遊び用おむつを用意してください。料金は無料なので、子どもの様子を見ながら短時間で切り上げる、という気軽な使い方ができるのもありがたいところです。

Tips

雨天等の気象状況により中止する場合があります。出発前に和歌山市の案内と当日の天気を確認しておくと安心です。公園に駐車場はないため、公共交通機関または近隣の有料駐車場を利用してください。午後1時の開設直後は空いていることが多く、小さな子でも落ち着いて水に慣れることができます。日差しの強い時間帯にあたるので、木陰での休憩と水分補給をこまめにはさみましょう。

The planetarium has fixed screening times, so check the day's schedule when you enter. Check opening hours, closed days and admission fees on the official website in advance. During busy hours the popular exhibits form queues, so starting from the quieter floors makes for an efficient visit.
