About this spot

A spacious park in the centre of Wakayama City, crowned by a castle keep. Even without climbing to the keep, simply walking the tree-lined moatside paths and the gardens lets you feel the atmosphere of the castle town. Gazing at the stone walls reflected on the water, resting on a bench in the shade — the easy thing about this park is how well it suits the pace of families with small children. There is also a free zoo inside the grounds, so take a look if you have time and energy to spare. A light walk in the morning makes the water play that follows feel even better.

Venue: 和歌山市・中之島公園

和歌山市の中之島公園に開設される、夏季限定の幼児プール「中之島公園幼児プール」です。2026年は7月18日(土)から8月12日(水)まで、午前9時30分から午後12時30分まで開設されます。対象は小学校就学前の幼児のみで、小学生以上は利用できません。保護者の同伴が必須で、水着の着用が必要です。水遊び用以外の紙おむつ・紙パンツでは利用できないため、おむつが取れていない子には水遊び用おむつを用意してください。料金は無料なので、様子を見ながら短時間で切り上げるという気軽な使い方ができます。

Tips

雨天等の気象状況により中止する場合があります。出発前に和歌山市の案内と当日の天気を確認しておくと安心です。公園に駐車場はないため、公共交通機関または近隣の有料駐車場を利用してください。午後12時30分で終了なので、着替えの時間を見て12時15分ごろには水からあがるとあわてずに済みます。遊び終えたらそのまま昼ごはんにできるよう、食事の場所をあらかじめ決めておくとスムーズです。

Tips

Some areas have many slopes and steps, so with a stroller the flat moatside paths are easier going. Some stretches have little shade, so do not forget a hat and drinks. Climbing the keep would eat into your pool time, so on this day we recommend simply admiring it from below.
