Wakayama Prefectural Museum of Natural History (和歌山県立自然博物館)

About this spot

A prefectural museum in Kainan City (海南市) that presents the whole of Wakayama's natural world. The highlight is a large tank where the fish of the Kii Channel swim; you can see them up close as in an aquarium while also learning about the creatures of the prefecture's rivers and sea. There are specimen displays as well, and children who love insects or fossils may become even more absorbed in them than in the tank. It is air-conditioned and softly lit, which makes it just right for a bright, hot summer morning. Seeing water creatures here before going off to play in water subtly changes how a child takes it all in.

Venue: 和歌山市・高津公園

和歌山市の高津公園に開設される、夏季限定の幼児プール「高津公園幼児プール」です。2026年は7月18日(土)から7月31日(金)まで、午前9時30分から午後12時30分まで開設されます。ほかの公園より期間が短いので、行くと決めたら早めに日程を押さえておくのがおすすめです。対象は小学校就学前の幼児のみで、小学生以上は利用できません。保護者の同伴が必須で、水着の着用が必要です。料金は無料ですが、水遊び用以外の紙おむつ・紙パンツでは利用できないため、おむつが取れていない子には水遊び用おむつを用意してください。

Tips

雨天等の気象状況により中止する場合があります。出発前に和歌山市の案内と当日の天気を確認しておくと安心です。公園に駐車場はないため、公共交通機関または近隣の有料駐車場を利用してください。午後12時30分で終了なので、着替えの時間を見て12時15分ごろには水からあがるとあわてずに済みます。7月31日(金)で終わる短い期間なので、雨で流れたときの予備日もあわせて考えておくと安心です。

Tips

Check opening hours, closed days and admission fees on the official website in advance. The halls are dimly lit and some floors can be slippery, so a word about not running beforehand helps. There is a parking lot, but it can fill up early on summer holiday weekends. From here it is a short drive to Takatsu Park.
