Kawaguchi Shrine (川口神社)

About this spot

This shrine has long been cherished as the guardian shrine of Kawaguchi City. Kawaguchi is known nationwide as a casting town, and the grounds carry the history of a community that grew alongside that industry. Although it stands in a built-up district lined with buildings, the moment you step inside the grounds the air changes, surrounded by groves of trees. Walking through while teaching children how to purify their hands and how to pray makes it a memorable stop even in a short visit. It is within walking distance of Kawaguchi Station, so it fits easily into an outing by train.

Tips

Parts of the grounds are gravel paths, so a stroller can be hard to push in places. A baby carrier will make moving around easier. It is a quiet place, so telling children in advance not to run around helps. On festival days it can get crowded.

Best time to visit

Allow about 35 minutes. The cool morning hours are the most comfortable.
