This is Miyagi Prefecture's prefectural library in Shiyama, Izumi Ward, Sendai City, within walking distance of Shiyama Park. The large building, designed to evoke a ship, has a pleasant atrium, and simply walking through it leaves an impression on children. A separate reading room for children means there is less need to worry about noise, and you can take your time choosing picture books and illustrated encyclopedias. Because you can stay cool indoors, it makes a good stretch of time for conserving energy ahead of afternoon water play. The surroundings are a quiet, green residential area, and the walk to the park is easy going.

仙台市泉区の紫山公園にある、無料の「紫山公園壁泉(人工滝)の水遊び場」です。園内の斜面につくられた壁泉から水が流れ落ち、その下が浅い水場になっているため、小さな子でも水にふれて遊べます。同じ園内にローラーすべり台と大型複合遊具がそろっているので、水遊びと遊具を行き来しながら長い時間を過ごせるのが魅力です。駐車場とトイレが整っていて、着替えや休憩の場所に困りません。料金は無料なので、暑い日の夕方だけ涼みに立ち寄るといった気軽な使い方もできます。

開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間の運用です。出かける前に仙台市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。壁泉の石は濡れると滑りやすいので、足を守れるマリンシューズがあると安心です。水深は浅くても目を離さず、大人が必ず付き添ってください。ローラーすべり台は服が擦れるため、長ズボンか濡れてもよい着替えを用意しておくと快適です。遊んだあとは足元をよく流し、着替えてから帰ると体が冷えません。

Tips

Check closing days and opening hours on the official website in advance. A library card is needed to borrow books, but no procedure is required simply to read on site. There is a parking lot, so you can also stop by car. Events for children are sometimes held during the summer vacation period, so checking the notice board before you look around adds to the fun.
