Zaimokuiwa Park (Park of Dialogue between Water and Stone) Water Plaza and Water Channel
About this spot
This is the free Zaimokuiwa Park (Park of Dialogue between Water and Stone) Water Plaza and Water Channel, located in Zaimokuiwa Park in Shiroishi City, Miyagi Prefecture. A shallow pool-like plaza built from a fountain and rocks, and a water channel leading on from it, are laid out here, so even small children can touch the water and play safely. Zaimokuiwa, a national natural monument, rises behind it, and spending time within a landscape where rock and water are one is an experience unique to this park. The park has a shop, an ice house, a fishing pond and a farmhouse restaurant, so you can build a whole day without leaving. Set in a valley where the water is cold, it feels cooler than in town even at the height of summer, which is a great attraction. Admission is free, so you can also drop in just for the afternoon on a hot day to cool off.
Season & hours
Name: 材木岩公園(水と石との語らいの公園) 親水広場・親水路
Date & time: 開設期間は未発表 (例年は夏休み期間)
Venue: 白石市・材木岩公園
Tips
The opening period has not been announced; in past years it has operated during the summer holiday season. Please check the on-site information for the day's status before you go. The water is quite cold, so give small children breaks rather than letting them stay in too long, and watch for blue lips and shivering. Be sure to bring dry clothes and something to put on over them. The rocks get slippery when wet, so water shoes that protect the feet are reassuring. Even though the water is shallow, never look away and always have an adult accompany children. The ice house in the park shows how ice was stored in the old days, so taking a look during a break reveals why it feels so cool here.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours 50 minutes. The afternoon, when the sunlight softens, is recommended
