Matsumori Castle (Tsurugajo Castle) Ruins

About this spot

These are the remains of a medieval castle on a hilltop in Matsumori, Izumi Ward, Sendai City. No buildings survive, but the piled-earth ramparts and moat traces are clearly readable in the terrain, and walking while reading the information boards brings the original form to mind. Surrounded by groves, the sunlight is softened even in summer, making it just right for a morning stroll. It stands overlooking the lowland where the Nanakita River flows, so thinking together about why a castle was built here makes for an interesting stretch of time. There are long stairways and slopes, so visit in shoes that are easy to walk in.

仙台市泉区の桂中央公園にある、無料の「桂中央公園水遊び場」です。入口の正面に水遊びスポットがあるため、着いてすぐ子どもが駆け出せる分かりやすさが魅力になっています。園内には芝生広場と遊具、遊歩道、バスケットゴールがそろっていて、小さな子から小学生の上の学年まで一緒に過ごせるのがうれしいところです。住宅街の中心に位置する公園なので、周囲の道は歩きやすく、荷物が多くても移動が苦になりません。料金は無料なので、夕方に少しだけ涼みに寄るといった気軽な使い方もできます。

開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間の運用です。出かける前に仙台市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。水深は浅くても目を離さず、大人が必ず付き添ってください。日陰は木の下やベンチ周りに限られるので、帽子と飲み物、休憩用のレジャーシートを忘れずに。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意してください。遊んだあとは足元をよく流し、着替えてから帰ると体が冷えません。

Tips

This is a quiet historic site, not a full-fledged tourist facility. Do not expect shops or restrooms, so bring drinks in advance and use the restroom before you set out. In summer the grass grows tall and there are many insects, so insect repellent and long trousers are reassuring. The ground can be muddy after rain.
