This is the free Jaishi Babbling Brook Park Splash Pool in Taiwa Town (大和町), Miyagi Prefecture. A man-made splash pool and a babbling stream plaza are laid out, shallow enough that even small children can dip their feet in and play safely. Because of its setting in the hills, you can play in the water surrounded by groves and mountain ridges, an appeal that city parks cannot match. Parking is provided, but when it is crowded there are notices directing visitors to park at nearby parks, so arriving early brings peace of mind. Open flames are strictly prohibited in the park and overnight stays are not allowed, so plan to bring a boxed lunch rather than cook. Admission is free, so you can also use it just to cool off for an afternoon on a hot day.

Tips

The opening period has not been announced, and in past years operation has run through the summer holidays. Check the Taiwa Town information for conditions on the day before you set out. Open flames are strictly prohibited, so barbecues and fireworks are not allowed. Even though the water is shallow, do not take your eyes off children, and an adult must always stay with them. Water shoes bring peace of mind so you do not cut your feet on the stones. Temperatures drop in the evening in this mountain area, so be sure to bring dry clothes to change into. Rubbish must generally be taken home.
