Hokkedake Yakushiji Temple (法華嶽薬師寺)

An old temple standing halfway up the mountain in a corner of Hokkedake Park in Kunitomi Town. Its principal image is Yakushi Nyorai, the Buddha of healing, and the temple has long drawn the faith of people seeking relief from illness. Wrapped in deep groves, the approach stays chilly even in midsummer, and as you climb the stone steps you forget the heat of the town. From the precincts the mountain scenery opens out, and visiting first thing in the morning shows the clarity of the air at its best. Because it stands inside the same park as the Jabunko Plaza you will visit in the afternoon, there is no travel burden and children do not waste their energy.

「法華嶽公園じゃぶんこ広場」は、東諸県郡国富町の法華嶽公園にある、愛染川の清流を引き込んだ幼児向けの水遊び場です。2026年の開場は7月18日から8月31日まで、時間は10:00〜16:00で、水曜は休園です。すべり台が設けられているので、水に入るのがはじめての子でも遊び方がすぐわかり、歓声が絶えません。山の川の水を引いているため水がきりりと冷たく、真夏でも体がしっかり冷えるのがこの場所ならではの気持ちよさです。更衣室と温水シャワーが無料で使え、じゃぶんこ広場専用の駐車場が60台分あるので、家族での利用がとても計画しやすくなっています。

Tips

There are stone steps and slopes, so set out in comfortable walking shoes. Some stretches are hard to manage with a pushchair, so a baby carrier will be easier to move with. Mosquitoes come out in the mountains, so applying insect repellent beforehand makes the visit more comfortable. This is a place to be quiet, so agree with children in advance not to run.
