This library is built as one with the station building of Etchu-Funahashi Station (越中舟橋駅), a design that is rare anywhere in Japan. Walk out of the ticket gate and the space lined with bookshelves spreads out in front of you, so opening a book while waiting for a train is part of everyday life here. Large windows look onto the platform and the trains, so even a child with little interest in books will let the time pass happily watching the carriages. Although the village has a small population, the collection is substantial and a generous space is given to the children's section. It is a place that could only exist here, where you can see that this is the heart of daily life in the smallest village in Japan.

「オレンジパークふなはしひとりじゃ遊べない水遊び場」は、舟橋村のオレンジパークふなはし(京坪川河川公園)にある無料の水遊び場です。名前のとおり、手押しポンプで誰かが水を汲み上げないと遊べない仕組みになっていて、汲み上げた水はじゃぶじゃぶ池と泥んこスロープへ流れていきます。ポンプを押す係と水を受ける係を交代しながら遊ぶことになるので、初めて会った子ども同士でも自然と声を掛け合うようになるのがこの遊び場の一番の魅力です。村の子ども(こども公園部長)とクラウドファンディングによってつくられた、住民の思いが形になった場所でもあります。開設期間は未発表で、公園は終日開放されていますが、水遊び場の通水期間は公式に記載がありません。園内には複合遊具や、ボルダリングと滑り台のある「秘密基地」、芝生広場もそろっているので、水に飽きても遊び場所に困りません。

Tips

水遊び場の通水期間は公式に記載がないため、訪れる前に舟橋村へ確認しておくと確実です。泥んこスロープがあるので、服も体も泥だらけになる前提で着替えとタオルを多めに用意してください。泥のついた服を入れる袋と、車のシートを保護する敷物があると帰りが楽です。ポンプは力がいるので、小さな子は大人と一緒に押しましょう。日陰は限られるため、こまめな水分補給と休憩を心がけてください。
